Gerard Pique releases bank statement to hit back at Barcelona wage speculation | Soccer News

Barcelona centre-back Gerard Pique has released a bank statement to address speculation over his salary at the club.

Pique has repeatedly insisted that he took a pay cut in order to help Barcelona ease their financial problems, but local Spanish media reported that Pique had just deferred his salary, reported.

The Barcelona centre-back posted a bank statement on his Twitter account and he captioned the message as follows: “Characters like this charge public television to defend their friends. Here is 50% of my wage bill earned on December 30 . Respect each other a little.”

Barcelona have been plagued with financial problems and the club have been unable to resign Argentina striker Lionel Messi ahead of the current campaign.

Several other players have also been forced to see their wages cut in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

Barcelona currently sit fifth in the La Liga table with 31 points from 19 games.

The team will next face Granada in the competition on Saturday night.
